Miggy and Laida Part Two

Yes. My husband and I somehow still found a way to watch the second team up of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo. Remembering how fun it was the first time they were paired up together was enough reason to actually see the sequel of their movie.

The sun dance was still there, the "Kailan" song was pretty much used up to brighten the couple's day, the ever wacky team was still complete (of course with their never ending punchlines). Add to those the "Bebe ko" message tone (which undoubtedly found it's way to the viewer's cellphones as well), the power hug, the 5-second kiss, and the "mas love kita" line of Laida.

Inspite of the kilig factors that was added to the movie, it wasn't as romantic as the first installment. I guess that's part of the deal when the dream comes to life. Laida's fairy tale was translated to reality which brought issues rather than the simple "kilig" factors. It was no longer about the prince charming saving the damsel in distress. It was about a couple figuring out how to keep the love no matter how hard things may seem. It showed people how wrong it is to give up your life entirely just to be with someone and how it is not helpful to not give up anything as well so that you may be with the one you love.

Confusing? More tricky I suppose. But that is how love is. You'd have to learn the game well for you to play it well and stay longer than all the other players. It's a winner take it all thing -- you and the one you love in a happy (almost) ever-after.

Should you watch it? Yeah, why not. Amidst the crisis, it's still one feel good movie that you can relate to. After all, it's always fun to remember how it is to be in love.

My Hero

I have been waiting for July 17, 2008 because it's the return of my favorite superhero. The Dark Knight is here to save the day once more.

I LOVE BATMAN. I chose him over Superman because he lives not on extraordinary strength. He tries to make a difference by using his resources, translating them into high technology gadgets that can be used to win over the evil of society.

So last night, hubby and I made a date with the Cape Crusader. The movie had a great twist in it, surprising you every now and then with the turn of events. The city's view isn't as gloomy as the past Batman movies but the Joker (played by Heath Ledger) was a character on its own. His presence will make you shiver a bit. Maybe it's his very weird sense of humor and his freaky face that is distrubing. But his idea of what the world is, makes you want to say that he knows more than you think he does.

Maggie Gyllenhaal fits the personality of Rachel Dawes more perfectly than Katie Holmes in the last sequel. Aaron Eckhart did a splendid job as the new D.A. of Gotham City who, in the end, turned out to be a character as well (I will not tell who for the benefit of those who haven't watched it).

How did Christian Bale fair this time? Pretty much the same: quite the conceited Bruce Wayne (compared to how Bruce was presented in the past films) but the confused hero of the town. Among all those who portrayed Batman, I think Bale is the one that best fits. Before, it was Keaton for me. Now, I'd have to change my preferences to Bale.

Was it a happy ending? There are no such thing as happy endings for superhero movies. Why? Because inspite of them not wanting to be a hero anymore, they are confronted with the choice of not having to choose for their sake but for others. At the end of the day, you still do what's best for most of the people. You never get to do what's best for you.

And that would only mean more Batman movies to look forward to.

Of ancient times

Hi. I am Jown. And I was a movie addict.

My husband and I were movie addicts...but the addiction slowly lessened since last year. Maybe it was the pregnancy, maybe it was because we're now so eager to go home every night to see or son. But we use to watch three movies every week -- be it local or foreign films, drama, comedy, horror, suspense, fantasy, action, whatever suits our mood -- and for us nothing beats watching a film on the widescreen.

Not that we don't watch movies anymore, it's just that now, we actually choose which film we'd like to see best on the widescreen. Last week, we went out for a movie date to see 10,000 B.C.

The title would probably make you think of things such as tribal, ancient, jungle, beasts or prehistoric languages. Well, those are exactly our thoughts. So the movie started right as far as our imagination is concerned. There were people belonging to a tribe and costumes were definitely thousands of years ago. But then the actors started talking in English and we were quite surprised because we had our minds set that there will be a lot of reading during the film because of subtitles. It was good though because we can actually concentrate on watching the film itself. Some parts were narrated making you feel as if it was sort of documentary.

The film's first part will make you think it's about being a warrior or how people survived in the old times. As the plot builds, your theories will be challenged because there weren't much fighting scenes. It was in the middle part that you will realize that 10,000 B.C. is more of lovestory that happened thousands of years ago. It's a lovestory disguised as a prehistoric action/suspense film.

Yes. It was about love. It was about a guy no very liked in his tribe, falling in love and going after the one whom his heart desired. He battled the wild animals, the scorching sun, the steep mountains and went across the vast water to bring back home his one true love. In his journey towards his great love, he found his own courage, learned to believe in his abilities and led people from different tribes to rise above the slavery and fight for their own lives.

Dramatic? It was a bit of that. The quest was successful but the movie wasn't quite a hit for me and my husband. We should have watched Vantage Point instead.
